Dress and Grooming (All JJHS Grade Levels)
The Junior High School’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safety hazards.  Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
1.  Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be no more than 3 inches from the bend of the knee. Cut-offs, plastics, bikers, running shorts, lycra (spandex), and sliders are prohibited.
2.  Students shall not wear excessively tight or revealing clothing, such as tank tops, sheer blouses, spaghetti straps, mesh shirts, tube tops, halter tops, bare midriffs, crop tops, and sleeveless top garments. If revealing clothing is worn underneath a permissible garment, the permissible garment must remain on at all times. Shirts and pants must meet in such a way that there is no skin showing at any time, regardless of what position the arms or body is in.  Leggings should not be excessively tight or see-through.
3.  Sagging is not permitted.
4.  Pants/jeans with holes/rips/tears must not expose skin around the buttocks or crotch.
5.  NO holes in jeans unless worn with tights underneath not exposing skin.
6.  Pajama pants, and pants with writing across the buttocks area, should not be worn.
7.  Clothing which displays writing or pictures aimed at communicating pornographic ideas, obscene gestures or language, satanic pictures or symbols, use of drugs, tobacco or alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Clothing that is related to gang membership or resembles gang membership will be prohibited.
8.  Hair/hairstyles should not be distracting in nature, and must be clean and neatly combed out of the eyes.
9.  Shades/sunglasses are not to be worn by students inside the building.
10.  Hats, caps, wave caps, hair picks, etc. are not to be worn at school. The wearing of any type of head apparel, including bandannas or head bands by any student is prohibited.
11.  If jewelry becomes a distraction during class, the student may be asked to remove it.
12.  Males may have one small stud earring per ear only (no hoops or any other earrings are to be worn). NO piercings in lips or tongue; students will be allowed to have pierced ears and one facial piercing, i.e. eyebrow or nose.
13.  No student will expose a tattoo.
14.  Shoes must be worn at all times. House shoes, or any shoes that leave the foot dangerously exposed will not be allowed.  If the shoes do not cover toes and heal, an athletic pair of shoes (tennis shoes) must be brought for PE/athletics.
15.  No blankets are to be worn as a cover-up, or in place of a jacket.
16.  Hoods should not be worn on campus. Garments with hoods (“hoodies”) are permitted but students cannot wear “hoodies” in the building.
Administration reserves the right to deem a student's attire inappropriate or distracting.
School administrators have the final authority on the dress code.
If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day, until the problem is corrected, or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school.  Students who violate the JJHS dress code may be sent home and charged with an unexcused absence.  Repeated offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
